Did You Know Lladro Makes Urns?

Did You Know Lladro Makes Urns?

That's right urns! Turns out Lladro has a collection for funeral homes that consists of "memento" angel figures and a selection of urns. These pieces are almost unknown outside the funeral industry and even most die hard Lladro collectors have never seen them before. While they are not part of the regular Lladro line and are made under the Everty name, the design is unmistakably Lladro.

The urns feature a safety lock mechanism, easy to transport packaging and are also designed to pass through x-ray security systems in airports.

The Everty Angels have a customizable plate to be attached in the place on the back of the memento and the lid has a container to store a keepsake and photo.

So now there is a way for serious Lladro collectors to show how much they truly love the finest porcelain in the world!

A Collector's Book Of Retired Lladro by Peggy Whiteneck

Lladro Figurines Guide
For collector's looking to uncover information about the early history of Lladro there are many places to find it. Unfortunately most of these sources vary little in what knowledge they have to offer. Most spout off the same basic facts that can be found on dozens of other websites and offer little new insight on the companies evolution. Fortunately Peggy Whiteneck has authored a wonderful book that gives us a unique look into the Lladro company. This 138 page paper back book sheds new light on an array of Lladro subjects and even surprised us with interesting facts that we had never read before. It is a great read that focuses on Lladro's figurine lines and we highly recommend it to any collector who wants to delve deeper in to the history of Lladro and some of it's other brands.

A Few Of The Subjects Covered Include:

The making of Lladro figurines and how the process has evolved over time.

Lladro authentication marks and stamps.

A F.A.Q. list for collector's looking to purchase retired Lladro Statues

The renegade defection of a chemist and two artists from Lladro in the mid 60's.

Tang Figurines - A brand that some believe to have been created by the renegade Lladro defectors.

Rosal Figurines -  A brand that is reputed to have been created by Lladro solely for the purpose of putting a (renegade) competing brand out of business.

Golden Memories - An ill fated lower end line of Lladro figurines produced from 1992-1994 to compete with Precious  Moments.

NAO Figurines - A line of smaller and more basic designs in the classic Lladro style that are still being made today.

Zaphir Figurines- A line of  figurines from the 70's-80's with very obscure ties to Lladro early on. In the end Lladro appears to have purchased this company and eventually stopped it's production.

What Does Lladro Figurines And Michael Jackson Have In Common? More Than You Might Think!

What Does Lladro Figurines And Michael Jackson Have In Common? More Than You Might Think!

On the 4th anniversary of Michael Jackson's untimely demise we look back at his connection with Lladro statues.

When Michael was around the age of 10 he was given a Lladro figurine as a gift by an unknown individual. This piece sparked a life long affection for the porcelain figures and he continued to collect them for the rest of his life. Sometime in 1977 he visited the Lladro Shop in Madrid Spain and purchased many pieces for his collection. Years later on his 1992 "Dangerous" world tour he decided to visit the Lladro factory in Valencia Spain. Parts of this event were captured on video and documented in Jose Lladro's autobiography.

The video has been posted on you tube and can be viewed here:
Michael Jackson at the Lladro Factory

After the factory tour was over, Michael sat down with some Lladro Family members and artists to discuss the production of a figurine featuring him that would be sold and the profits give to help children's organizations around the world. It is believed that only one of these statues was ever made due to child molestation accusations that surfaced soon after and the figurine stayed in Michael's private collection until it was auctioned off after his death in 2009. At the time it was not know who had purchased the piece, but a few years later it was spotted on Oprah Winfrey's mantle during an interview of Paris Hilton.

CORRECTION: Thank you to the MJJusticeProject for correcting our original post. We incorrectly stated that it was Oprah's mantle that the Lladro Michael Jackson figure was spotted on, but it was actually a home owned by Paris Hilton. They also informed us that the piece has now found it's way back to Michael Jackson's children and currently in their possession.

Thanks For The Update!

Lladro Expands Into The Lighting Market With Belle De Nuit

Lladro Expands Into The Lighting Market With Belle De Nuit

Lladro Belle De Nuit Chandelier

Over the last few years we have noticed several new companies expand their collections into the ever growing lighting market. Not to be out done, Lladro has jumped into the fray with its new Belle De Nuit Collection. Taking inspiration from the classic crystal chandeliers of old, Lladro has applied its knowledge of porcelain and created something uniquely different. Most striking is the use of a color palette that is much more colorful than what we have come to expect from Lladro Figurines.

Lladro Porcelain Belle De Nuit Sconce

Matching wall sconces are also available to create a unique décor that would impress even the most discerning individuals. Additionally, a collection of over 40 lamps decorated in the classic Lladro style have been added. These should prove very popular with Lladro's core collector base, who may be looking to add another figurine to their collection but can't find space in the curio cabinet.

Lladro Debuts The Dazzle Collection At Maison et Object

Lladro Debuts The Dazzle Collection At Maison et Object

Never one to rest on its laurels, Lladro has introduced a new and strikingly different array of figures in its forth coming Dazzle Collection. Taking designs from the past and adding a decidedly unique painting scheme, Lladro has created something that collector's have definitely never seen before. The black and while striped figurines are a break from the classic Lladro style that they have become known around the world for, and it will be interesting to see how the U.S. market responds to them. One thing for certain is that Lladro is going after a new and more modern type of audience as a way of expanding its global appeal.

Lladro Dazzle Macaw Figurine

Lladro describes the Dazzle collection as:

"a series of Lladró pieces with a new decorative approach inspired by the camouflage technique based on a complex pattern of geometric shapes. Through the contrast of black and white and the enriching confusion of the lines interrupting and intersecting each other, this artistic exercise creates a new image of Lladró’s existing pieces that acquire greater energy and a renewed capacity to express sensations."
