The story of the mythological character Arion, a legendary Greek performer of the cithara who was kidnapped by pirates and then rescued by a sea creature, is the source of inspiration of one of the most beautiful Lladro; High Porcelain creations. The Lladro Arion on a Sea Horse is inspired by the depiction of this mythological episode by the French artist William Adolphe Bouguereau in his painting Arion on a Seahorse (1855).

Lladro; artists have depicted this Ancient Greece poet as an adolescent on his return journey to Corinth. In this highly dynamic composition, full of strength, one can perceive the galloping pace of the seahorse thanks to the tension rendered in the modeling of the sea creature.

This impression of energy conveyed by the seahorse contrasts with the calmness of Arionss face and gesture, absorbed in the music he is playing on his cithara. This juxtaposition of peace and energy is further heightened by the contrast between the whiteness of Lladro Arion on a Sea Horse's skin and the chromatic wealth of the armor. In fact, this profusion of decorative details is a signature of the very best Lladro; High Porcelain pieces.

With regards to the palette of colors used by the artists, apart from plenty of marine tones, particularly noteworthy is the coloring of the seahorsess armor, the golden effects imbuing Arionss figure with a sense of nobility and the wealth of nuances presented by the glazes when crystallized in the kiln. Furthermore, in their ongoing ambition to innovate, the artists from the High Porcelain Workshop have come up with a new color, created specifically for the Lladro Arion on a Sea Horse and applied for the first time here, which adds a different touch to the marine tones.

Technically speaking, part of the complexity of the Lladro Arion on a Sea Horse 01001948 Sculpture lies in its composition, as the front part of the seahorse extends freely beyond the main body of the composition, adding an extra difficulty when firing the piece.

The musical instrument includes the only detail which is not made of porcelain: the metal strings of the cithara. Finally, it is also worth underscoring the base, expressly designed for this piece to enhance the personality and composition of the Lladro Arion on a Sea Horse.
